The certification of Chubut’s onshore red shrimp fishery was met with great satisfaction among the companies that were part of this decade-long process.
Feelings of satisfaction, joy and relief were reflected in the first reactions of the business sector that made up the Client Group within the certification process of Chubut’s onshore red shrimp.
Carlos Molina (Food Partners Patagonia) stated that “achieving certification is in itself a goal achieved and a basic condition to offer and give the market predictability and certainty that this resource, wild and focused in one area, operated from a unique port and administered by a single state authority, will allow the opportunity to exploit it to its fullest expression”.
Molina also pointed out: “This new scenario also requires the sector to work hard and immediately on strategies and actions to position this species in the market, getting much better recognition and value. Just as we have worked together for certification, we must also do so to get a higher value, and immediately”.
After being informed of the good news, Federico Angeleri (Veraz Group) highlighted that “this is undoubtedly an important step, which shows that when we work as a team, we can achieve very good results”.
“It was a long process, many years of explaining the need and the benefits, and asking for the necessary changes in order to achieve the goal, which undoubtedly generates great satisfaction. We are confident that the certification will allow us to open doors in new markets and we hope that this will increase demand,” he concluded.
Pablo Basso (Iberconsa) noted that for the sector “achieving this certification, after such a long time, is a great achievement. It allows us to demonstrate to customers and organisations that our commitment is real and to dissipate any doubts”.
How would you describe CeDePesca’s role in this process?
Carlos Molina: “CeDePesca played a crucial, necessary and decisive role in aligning the different stakeholders and promoting their commitment. They pushed the process forward with great patience and determination. It wasn’t magic – it was a lot of hard work. In our industry, pre-competitive efforts are challenging, but CeDePesca made it happen”.
Federico Angeleri: “CeDePesca’s support and drive have been fundamental throughout this long process. Businesses have a different agenda, especially in Argentina, where we live from urgency to urgency, which makes it impossible for us to follow the process so closely. The NGO has undoubtedly played a fundamental role, because it has been involved in every stage and every need, and it has done so very well”.
Pablo Basso: “CeDePesca’s role was fundamental. The reality is that many of the companies that make up the client group are not specialists in certification and sustainability. It is important to have a voice that is attentive to this development, both in terms of advice and in terms of monitoring the process. Without CeDePesca’s contribution, certification would not have been possible.”
